- ME AND MY COMMODORE
- by Tim Fluharty
-
-
- I also started out with a VIC-20,
- after seeing those TV commercials with
- William Shatner explaining what a
- great thing this was, etc. I trusted
- the ol' Captain and spent $160 on a
- VIC-20 in 1981 I think.
-
- Well, playing with the VIC and
- learning BASIC and doing video and
- sound experiments rather blew my mind
- and I spent many hours writing
- labrynthine (sp?) programs with random
- number generators and huge look-up
- tables for POKEing music and video
- events. I had a ball and it made a
- huge impact on my thinking and
- creative processes.
-
- I eventually connected an early
- music synthesizer digital-to-analog
- control voltage output device to the
- user port and used the VIC to control
- a large modular analog synthesizer, an
- unforgettable experience (and the
- tapes I made with that setup are still
- waiting to be archived to CDr,
- unfortunately!)
-
- In short, one of the best $160 I
- ever spent. I still have that machine
- and it works, though it's original
- keyboard was swapped with a C-64's
- that was worn out...I mostly use
- C-64's now with Dr.T's "keyboard
- Controlled Sequencer" KCS-64 program,
- but I'll always love my VIC!!!
